FTI Custom Hydraulic Roller Camshaft - LT1 GEN-V (Naturally Aspirated)
These revolutionary Comp Cams based GM GEN V camshafts are designed to work with the direct injection, VVT (variable valve timing), and AFM (active fuel management) lifters featured in GM's GEN V LT1-LT4/L83-L86 engine. These grinds feature four different lobe profiles to both create AFM compatibility and optimize intake and exhaust valve opening/closing events.
The "Street/Strip" series LT1 camshafts increase torque and horsepower throughout the entire rpm range, while providing excellent responsiveness and mid-range power over stock for across the board horsepower and torque gains. The GM LT1 GEN V camshafts require the Comp Cams phaser limiter kit #5456 (sold separately), which limits the range of camshaft movement from 62 to 22 crank degrees, thus requiring custom PCM tuning. High pressure, replacement valve springs required as well as the correct length, hardened push rods.
The "Race/Track" series LT1 hydraulic roller custom camshaft profiles are designed per each customer's specific application. Every single facet of your project is taken into consideration when developing these camshaft profiles. Drag racing, open track and high endurance applications are covered. The "R/T" series camshafts require the AFM to be deactivated and non-AFM lifters to be used. Standard Morel Link-Bar or direct replacement LS2 lifters and trays are required. Comp Cams tool steel cam core technology, widely seen in NASCAR, NHRA and other professional race engines, is now available for GM Gen V LT1, L83 and L86 applications. Tool steel is 30% stronger than the standard SAE 5150 or SAE 8620 cam cores typically used for LS camshafts. This material allows the use of more aggressive profiles on both the direct injection (DI) fuel pump lobe and the cam lobes. The size and shape of the DI lobe can be customized to support more horsepower over the OEM design (see fuel pump lobe options). The polygonal designs are available with three, four or five “throws” per revolution. The four-lobe option can be advanced or retarded to properly phase with the injector timing to maximize flow, reduce pressure fluctuations and minimize fuel bypass.
These Comp Cams tool steel cam cores are through hardened, meaning that engine builders can choose virtually any combination of duration, lift, lobe separation and advance. They are superior to the traditional hardened surface of either induction-hardened or carburized steel cam cores. GM Gen V (LT1/LT4/L83/L86) Sportsman Tool Steel Camshafts are available with or without Active Fuel Management (AFM).
