Hi-Tech Length Checking Push Rod Tool - (Comp-770x-1)
In order to check and verify rocker arm geometry, the correct push rod length is extremely important. This adjustable push rod tool is a necessity to be sure you have everything correctly set up. These Comp Cams and Lunati push rod length checkers are crafted from a steel alloy with black oxide coating for years of accurate measurements. They are easy to read and eliminate the need for expensive calipers. Each full revolution of the length checker is equal to .050" of length change. Having the correct push rods in your engine is a critical factor in proper rocker arm geometry and this is the best tool to measure push rod length (it reads like a micrometer). Don't risk ruining your engine for less than a simple $30 investment!
How to check for the correct length push rod:
This method requires the use of the COMP Cams Hi-Tech™ push rod length checker. These length checkers are marked with a standard length stamped in them. This number represents the gauge length of the part (.140" gauge diameter) with the two halves screwed completely together.
Extending the push rod checker one rotation lengthens the gauge length .050". For example, a push rod stamped 7.800" and screwed apart one rotation would be 7.800" + .050" = 7.850" gauge length.
Once you have your rocker geometry correct, you would order the correct size that matches this gauge length. Push rods can be ordered in the valvetrain section of the site. Custom lengths and wall thicknesses not in stock are usually a few days to make up and ship out.
